Kia Motability

To be eligible to join the Motability Scheme, you need to receive a mobility allowances and you must have at least 12 months’ award length remaining. When you sign for the scheme, your Motability allowance is deducted and paid to Motability Operations Ltd directly by the DWP (Department of Work and Pensions). As partners to the Motability Scheme, Chorley Group will arrange, advise and assist in finding your new leasing agreement with Motability.

You can have as many people in your home on the Motability Scheme as you want, as long as they're all eligible to join.

You can only have one Scheme vehicle each. How many non-Scheme vehicles you have does not affect whether you’re eligible to join the Scheme.

You cannot apply to join the Motability Scheme if you receive Attendance Allowance.

Young people can join the Motability Scheme, but what they can do and how they join depends on their age and whether they’re the customer or they have an appointee.

The disabled person can be awarded the higher rate mobility part of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) from their third birthday.

You can apply before then and if they’re eligible the allowance will begin when they turn three.

Children under three

If a child has their allowance confirmed, you can apply for the Scheme up to three months before their third birthday, but the lease cannot start until they’ve got their allowance.

Children over three

If a child gets the higher rate mobility part of DLA, you can apply for the Scheme but you’ll need to apply in the name of the appointee (a parent or guardian) who’s responsible for the allowance.

Everywhere except Scotland

Children who receive the higher rate mobility part of DLA can stay on this benefit until the age of 16, if they stay eligible.

If you live in Scotland

Children will stay on DLA until they're transferred to Child Disability Payment instead. Then they'll receive Child Disability Payment until they're 18.

You can only have one driver under 21 on your Certificate of Motor Insurance. This could be the disabled customer, or another driver living at the same address.

Unless they’re the customer, drivers under 21 need to hold a full driving licence.

If you’re the customer

There are no restrictions to you joining the Scheme with a provisional licence, but you’ll need to meet all our criteria.

As long as you’re shown as a driver on your Certificate of Motor Insurance and you’re accompanied by a nominated driver aged 21 or over, who has held their licence for at least three years, you can learn to drive in your Scheme vehicle.

All other provisional licence holders

You’ll need to be aged 21 or over and meet all our criteria.

If you’re under 25

There are a few restrictions:

• For petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles, you can only get a vehicle with an ABI Insurance Group rating of 16 or lower and a power output of 120 brake horsepower (bhp) or less
• For electric cars, you can only get a vehicle with an ABI Insurance Group rating of 21 or lower and a power output of 140 bhp or less
