There are a few simple things you can do before your appointment to help everything run smoothly.

Before your MOT and service:

• Make sure your vehicle has enough fuel and, if applicable, AdBlue or other fluids for testing.
• Check that all lights, wipers and washers work and that your tyres appear in good condition with adequate tread.
• Remove any excessive clutter from the footwells and boot so we can access seat belts and other components safely.
• Bring your locking wheel nut key and fuel cap key if your vehicle uses them.

You don’t usually need to bring your old MOT certificate as test centres can retrieve your MOT history electronically, but it can help to have it handy if you want to discuss previous advisories and any work you want completing. Your vehicle must also be taxed and insured to be driven legally to and from the test centre, even if the MOT has expired.

An MOT test is a legal requirement for most vehicles over three years old and checks that your car meets minimum safety and environmental standards. During your MOT, our technicians inspect key components like:
